Knowledge of the alternating kind

When Nikola Tesla said, “Electric power is everywhere present in unlimited quantities and can drive the world’s machinery without the need of coal, oil, gas, or any other of the common fuels”, could he have foreseen the role his discoveries and inventions would play in the information age? He was of course a visionary ahead of his time; the man dedicated his life to harnessing the true potential of electricity. His work on Alternating Current was revolutionary at the time and even as Thomas Edison profited by his discoveries, Nikola Tesla continued to strive towards a better understanding of the concepts of electricity and its relationship to magnetism. His inventions and his discoveries are crucial to the way the world functions today. The dedication to these principles and the joy of discovering the universes hidden secrets and mysteries is what STEM education in India is all about. When we at Technybirds make STEM toys for 10 year olds, our goal is to inspire the next generation of Nikola Teslas and Thomas Alva Edisons.
A coil generator is a simple device; it follows basic physical concepts of magnetism and its relationship to electricity. It is a simple design, created to illustrate to children the beauty of electricity and an easy way to generate it by using magnets and coils of copper wire, where moving a magnet back and forth can convert the mechanical energy involved into electricity. The joy of understanding the principles of science is one that can never be achieved with anything else. Figuring out something through practical demonstration is one of the true fulfilling moments of a child’s young life.
It satiates their curiosity in a primal sense. Humanity has always been a curious lot, always adventuring into the unknown. Risking life and limb to understand the universe is in our nature and the path to this amazing wave of scientific advancement that is currently in progress can be traced back to parents who believed their children had the capacity to do great things. It traces back to parents who were willing to challenge their children’s intellect and equip them with the tools to achieve greatness.
Alternating current is not a complex concept, it is simple in its application and so most people learn about it from their books, but as kids grow older and start visiting science labs in their schools they are shown these devices in the flesh and the joy in their eyes is clear for anyone to see. Unfortunately, our education system at times is too conservative with exposing our children to information. We believe in taking a proactive approach to parenting and exposing our kids to STEM education at earlier ages, even if it is by means of STEM toys. It is important to foster and harness a child’s curiosity when they are young as this is the time when they retain knowledge best and is also the time when they are most easily inspired. So with Technybirds, you too could inspire your children and help them shape a better world.
